We made it in a 2 day jaunt. Monday, June 7 we left Kumealon Inlet at 7 am. We only went 17 nm before putting the hook down in Lawson Harbor on the north end of Lewis Island, but then we are positioned to go across some very large water. I just saw in someone else’s blog that they had bypassed Prince Rupert. It never occurred to us to do that. Last fall we spent a week in Prince Rupert and so feel no desire to go there, and it will save us a lot of time. We showered, ate a nice meal, watched tv and took a short nap. The forecast was for a vary calm afternoon; this is unusual. It almost always kicks up in the afternoon. At 12:30 I checked the current conditions at the buoys and lighthouse for the Hecate Strait, Rose Point, Green, Dixon Entrance East and Ketchikan. It’s a resounding “Let’s go” and we were out of there fast!

It was a very gentle crossing that put us north and west of Prince Rupert, on Dundas Island. There is a great inlet on Dundas Island with a small cove that we can overnight in. There was 1 other boat there when we arrived. It was a very tight entrance and you made an S curve getting in. It was so pretty once inside and extremely well protected.

Sunrise on Tuesday, June 9. Approaching Dixon Entrance. The US Canada border was only 4 nm from our anchorage. It’s a long trip and you can see the water was like glass! We called into customs at 6:40 am. Love having Nexus Cards and a Starlink! We’re approved and in the United States again. The entire trip across the Dixon Entrance was flat clam.

The entrance to our harbor, Thomas Basin, is right next to this cruise ship!
We are in KETCHIKAN, ALASKA! Our lifelong dream of bringing our own boat to Alaska has been achieved. Also, it feels very good to be on land. I don’t know how long we will stay here, but I feel like I could stay a while. And, I didn’t make any plans or routes further north, so that needs to be done. Cleaning, laundry, getting some fresh food, walking. . .

Wow! You got a nice day in K…. Shearwater was where we cut inward to Ocean Shores and then headed back south. Sounds like SweetPea is loving her adventure, not to mention the Captain & first mate😁.
