From 2011 – 2017 We charted sailboats, mostly about 45′, in northern Michigan, Florida, Washington, North Carolina, California, the Leeward Islands and the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. After all this, we decided (Jan decided) we needed a trawler – not a sailboat! This was a great decision!

We started taking classes in 1983: The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating skills & Seamanship. We went on to get certifications in ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 118. Jan got a certificate in Weather. Norm took all kinds of docking, Radar, anchoring, close maneuvering, managing power, how waves and seas impact your vessel, Diesel maintenance and advanced boat handling. We even had a captain spend 3 days and nights on our boat for private lessons. The list is very long – we still feel like we learn every time we take the boat out!
