A Perfect Day on the Strait of Georgia, B.C.

It is not very often that one can boat straight down the Strait of Georgia. A very large body of water known to be particularly rough and it has a military torpedo zone right in the middle of it. Before transiting you have to call and find out if it’s active. Luckily for us – not today!

Norm spent a few hours riding on the bow – very unusual!

Then we spent a few hours navigating from the fly bridge – which we almost never do.

We cruised 91.2 nm’s. Left Boho @ 5:45 a.m. and landed in our home port slip @ 7:03 p.m. We had an easy call into U.S. Customs and got cleared into the United States. About 20 minutes later a very fast moving black rubber boat was zooming towards us – customs and boarder security – with both U.S and Canadian guys aboard. They boarded us and were very friendly. They open every hatch and cupboard on board, said Thank You, and were off. Easy peasy! We are very happy and excited to be home. I’m exhausted. We ate at the dockside grill at our marina and then I was in bed by 8:30 p.m.

July 30. There is a lot to do. Washing the boat, the laundry, fixing a few things, visiting with all our neighbors. We were gone 70 days. We traveled 1,810 nautical miles. We traveled 285 hours. We LOVED the trip! We are better boaters and learned an immense amount. I’m sure there is still much to learn!

Norm said I did 4 things really great: I planned a fantastic route. I picked interesting anchorages. I tracked/followed the weather really well and made good Go – NoGo -weather based decisions. I did well in large seas and waves. (Not a pansy!)

Norm kept the boat running and in good repair. He did 8/10ths of the piloting. He never gave me a hard time about not wanting to leave, turn around, or anchor early because of weather. We did all of those!
